PRICING (FEES)

Our fees for mediation are available on request. They are dependent upon a number of factors including the number of parties, the complexity and value of the dispute and the location of the mediation. We will usually be able to agree these in advance.

Remember:

  • that the fees reflect the time taken in assisting the parties to prepare for the mediation as well attendance at the mediation day itself, so do not be tempted to cut costs; and

  • since, by definition, the parties are at odds with each other, do not be surprised that mediations can take a lot longer than you might expect, particularly in disputes involving a high emotional content.

We are willing to offer a discounted rate for lower value claims and charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Mediator's expenses (including travel where chargeable) will be charged at cost. All fees quoted are excluding VAT which will be charged in addition where required, and are payable in advance.

For a one day mediation, the fees typically allow for:

  • Up to 250 pages of pre-reading or three hours preparation and contact time with the parties prior to the day of the mediation. This also allows the parties to familiarise themselves with the Zoom platform (if virtual).

  • Up to eight hours mediation on the day (typically 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.).

For a four-hour mediation the fees allow for up to four hours mediation on the day and 100 pages or 1 hour preparation and contact time in advance.

In either case, if additional pre-reading, preparation or contact time is required, we reserve the right to notify the parties and charge for additional hours.

Similarly, at the end of the mediation period, if it appears settlement is likely but has not been achieved by the end of the allotted period and the parties would like the mediation to continue, then any additional time beyond that would be charged at the hourly rates set out above for each hour or part of an hour in excess of the basic period.

Venue

If the mediation is to be held in person, it can be held at the premises of the parties in dispute or at any suitable neutral venue. It is usually helpful to have a room in which the parties can jointly meet with the mediator as well as smaller rooms for each party for separate private discussions between that party and the mediator.

Please confirm that you wish to proceed in person and, if you have agreed a venue, please provide details and confirm that suitable refreshments for all participants will be available throughout the day.
