Mediation can be useful in a variety of different contexts – most typically where those in conflict and/or their advisers have not felt comfortable with the idea of negotiating directly or where negotiations have become “stuck”. It provides a new impetus, a focus of energy and attention which can help the parties to stand back and take stock of their situation and look at the conflict in a different way.

In an effort to illustrate this we have provided examples of some common types of conflict and have created some broad categories. In reality the boundaries are not fixed and the process is flexible. Those who mediate regularly will be familiar with the following description:

Civil/commercial mediation

Organisational, workplace or community mediation

For those who are less familiar, further details of these types of mediation are available on our Services page and a summary of how these might practice on the Process page.

We do not currently offer Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings in family disputes.
